What is an exemption certificate?

An exemption certificate is a document that allows governments, businesses or other organizations to attest that they are a tax-exempt entity or are able to purchase certain items for certain uses while being exempt from sales tax. Like resale forms, rules vary widely by state, purchasing purpose, other variables, and are updated from time to time.
